I did the personal color analysis in person during my trip to Vietnam at K-Color. I booked the most comprehensive package that they offered back then (in April 2024).

What happens during the session
- Use a device to measure skin pigment, basically your skin color and tone to find out whether your skin is cool tone or warm tone and hence your personal color. I’m a summer soft tone girly. The color consultant explained that I have quite bright skin with a yellow undertone hence generally cool tone colors make me look better. People with this skin tone

- Knowing the skin tone, the color consultant will use the color fabric set within your personal color palette. They will flip through all the colors in the set to find which colors are the most outstanding ones. For me, they were Pastel Pink and Bali Hai.
- I however like colors in the Spring quadrant so the color consultant worked with me to see how to make this work. A common misconception is if your personal color is in one season, say Summer, it doesn’t mean you can’t wear or won’t look good in colors from other season. Given my skin tone,
spring pale tone would work best for me. While on the topic of misconception, the personal color only applies for clothes or accessories near your face (like top, scarf, jewellery, hand bag). Pants/ skirts or shoes are less relevant. - Make up and hair – I find this less useful as the results can change and depends on the foundation that you use. Having said that, it was useful to know the basic theory.
- Jewellery – Silver or white gold works better for me as again, I have a yellow undertone so wearing gold jewellery will make my face look more yellow.
Why I would recommend color analysis service
- Save time doing online research
- Getting opinion from someone who doesn’t know you which is likely to be more objective
- Personally it helped me clean out my wardrobe and build an improved one. Helped me build my style
- Found out additional colors to add to my wardrobe
Why would I NOT recommend color analysis service
- If you already have a good sense of what works/ not works for you, this experience might not add much value.
- This is not a definite results. The color recommended is based on your skin tone at the time of doing the test without any make up. So if you’re wearing makeup that is different to your skin tone without makde up everyday or if you your skin tone changes (after going on holiday, seasonality, age etc.), your personal color is very likely to change.
- At the end of the day, beauty is subjective. All that matter is you feel confident and beautiful.
The verdict
Personally, I found the experience very helpful and recommend it. Have I known what I had written in this article, I’d probably only book the basic package which focuses on personal color rather than booking a fully package.
